What is BCBS policy on upfront collections for BlueEdge Products

Since deductibles are fluid and claims process at anytime (especially pharmacy claims), what is BCBSIL's position on providers requiring upfront collections on large sums of money before services will be rendered? I understand BCBSNC has a position preventing providers from collecting deductible and coinsurance on their PPO products before an EOB/EOP is generated. Does BCBSIL have a position for providers?

Hello, Providers are allowed to request payment for your estimated patient responsibility amount (such as copay, deductible amounts, coinsurance amounts) prior to services being rendered. If you see an out-of-network provider, a provider not contracted with Blue Cross Blue Shield of Illinois, they can request payment in full before services are rendered. ~ Kayla

Hello, Providers are allowed to request payment for your estimated patient responsibility amount (such as copay, deductible amounts, coinsurance amounts) prior to services being rendered. If you see an out-of-network provider, a provider not contracted with Blue Cross Blue Shield of Illinois, they can request payment in full before services are rendered. ~ Kayla
